7 Warlock Changes After Pre-Cataclysm Patch 4.0.1

The increased boosts to the Warlock are upon us, and it was evident when the 4.0.1 patch for Cataclysm surfaced. However, what you read in the patch notes is definitely different from what you experience in the game. We recently logged into our Warlock and wanted to pass along 7 changes we found.

7 1 4 Saw

1. Talent Trees Reset
You've probably already seen this, but the changes made are huge for the Warlock class. You can no longer add a little Affliction stats while running down the Destruction tree. In fact, when you choose a tree it's yours until 31 points are placed in it.

2. Glyph Changes
There are now 9 different glyphs available for your Warlock. While this is true, the Cataclysm 4.0.1 patch has made a few changes. You can now use a Prime glyph, Major glyph, and Minor glyph. The first set unlocked is at level 25, and then at level 50 as well as level 75.

3. Curses to Banes
Blizzard wanted to give every Warlock the ability to use a Bane and Curse at the same time, so the Curse of Agony is gone. It was replaced by the Bane of Agony, along with others as well (Bane of Havoc or Doom).

So if you want to place the Curse of Tongues or Weakness on your enemy, you're still able to add Bane of Agony, Havoc, or Doom into your rotation.

4. Demons
This is probably the biggest change to the various levels of a Warlock. When you want to use the Summon Demon ability, you no longer have to wait in order to get the demon you desire.

Keep in mind; when you start out at level 1 you already have an Imp, and your options will increase as you level. Just the other night we were roaming around Westfall leveling our Herbalism profession and saw a level 16 Warlock with a Fel Guard!

5. Soul Shards
Even though this sounds like a big deal, Cataclysm didn't really change much when it comes to soul shards. Sure, you will have 3 available shards at a time, but most locks never used them in combat, so the new "not being able to use them in combat" rule doesn't hurt anyone.

The area where this might be an issue is when making healthstones and soulstones. The best thing to do is ready over the Cataclysm notes for a better understanding.

6. Soul Harvest
This addition to the Warlock is huge, because it provides you with health abilities. You also replenish your soul shards as well. So instead of sitting there eating food or using a bandage, you can hit the Soul Harvest ability and replenish yourself.

7. Hellfire
Now, even though this hasn't officially changed, Cataclysm is supposed to provide a major change in the Hellfire ability. You currently need to use a Voidwalker and bubble yourself so you don't consume damage, but this is going to be taken out.

It's just something to consider with your upcoming rotation.

Even though each one of these offer new Warlock changes, there are many more to follow. We recommend reading over all the Cataclysm patch notes and getting a good feel for everything your toon has to endure. This will be extremely helpful when the new expansion is upon us.
